Rook to E7, Kenshin take him out! An epic battle ensues and when the dust clears, white has captured another piece. Cosplay Chess pins two teams against each other in a do or die match to the death where the team who manages to corner the opponent's King is the victor. This year will be Science vs Magic, making sure to show once and for all whose got the power.
Cosplay Chess is a giant human chess game where convention attendees in costume serve as the pieces under the command of their King, fighting for victory and the right to say that they're the best of the best. With this year's theme of Science vs Magic, scores of aliens, computer nerds, and space pirates will face off againts demons, magic users, and the occasional ghost in a winner takes all fight to the death.
How to Participate:
The participants for chess are selected from attendees who sign up in advance. You don't even need to know how to play chess, you're instructed by your King for your movements. To participate, a submission must be made with a sample photo of you in costume along with a reference picture for comparison. Sign ups are not first come first serve, but all applications are reviewed after the cut off and the characters are selected on appropriateness of the theme and quality of costumes. There will be 32 pieces on the board, which leaves only 32 chances for you to be picked, however we also select alternatives in the event that a cosplayer can not attend the match.
Special attacks are also an option, where a character on board does not have an attack to use and they call upon a friend to help them. Please sign up TOGETHER with pictures of both people in their finished costumes. If there is space on the board, a special attack may become an actual piece.
KEEP IN MIND:
- Applicants do NOT choose what piece they are. Requests are not considered.
- Your application will NOT be considered without a photo. A reply requesting for a photo will be sent, please have it be a full shot of the front of the costume with YOU WEARING IT. All props that will be with the costume must be in the photo. The purpose of this is to make sure your costume is finished and also looks nice
- You can apply with more than one costume
- You CAN'T sign up as a group unless it is for a special attack. Not all special attacks will be accepted.
- Bulky and/or cumbersome costumes that take up a lot of space are harder to have on the board and therefore may not make it into the match
- Commissioned costumes are allowed
- THIS EVENT TAKES PLACE ON SUNDAY, DO NOT SIGN UP IF YOU INTEND TO LEAVE EARLY
The cut off date for submissions is NOVEMBER 1, as to give optimal time to have the match planned out and finalized. No submissions will be accepted after this date.
If you are accepted, you will recieve a confirmation email explaining what piece and side you are on. At the con, participants are required to attend the mandatory rehearsal on Saturday. Details about its time and location will be emailed to all those participating. You will not be required to be in your costume for the rehearsal, you simply need to be there.
If you have any further questions, contact the cosplay chess director, Sarah Sassak, at chess@anotheranimecon.com.
