it would be great fun because its easy to get on and some people who dont have aim can still chat with people and stuff!!

We've actually considered doing a chatroom of some sort, the only problem there is with moderation!

While attendees are free to do and communicate as they please, anything official we could be responsible if anything bad were to happen

oh well a more easily managed solution would be a shoutbox that users could post in and moderators could easily moderate. ive built shoutboxes like that before. ^.^ go javascript

Nobody would use it. I doubt many people on here even know what IRC is.

Key word being many. I'm sitting in about 14 of them, but that's beside the point.

I would have to disagree, most anime fans are rather internet-savvy and I would be surprised if more then 10% did NOT know what it was. The idea of a chat box would be nice though. Maybe one in the VG section for online gaming.

Knowing about them and using are two different things. We barely get enough activity on the forums, I doubt an IRC channel would be used enough for it to be worth having one. Also you overestimate the internet-savviness of anime fans =\

I moderate three irc rooms already and I have to admit to being one of the less internet savvy people here. However, my thoughts were to have one available only certain hours a week so we can get moderators. Also it will give people a chance to talk and stuff, but not so much that we just have lurkers doing nothing but still need a moderator online.

but really, i know about IRC, im moderatly internet savy, but I dislike using IRC chats and like posted before: dont think its worth having for AAC specifically. I know someone made one for FMA for AB, so im sure that there is one for cosplaying, or even convention going that you could find. but having one open during specific times would sound like a better option

if you really want to make yourself available for chatting, post your SN in your siggy or maybe start 1, 1 thread for exchanging screennames if there isn't one already

Yes, but there is a difference between a place you can go and talk to people and then leave and giving out personal information where people (whether you want them to or not) can contact you at any time. Something where I could go spend a couple hours and talk to people about AAC might be cool, getting 20 people IMing me every day would eat up my time. Not that I am saying it would, just giving a possible scenario.
